It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of our dear friend, dancer, teacher, choreographer, and extraordinary woman, Althea M. Leslie, who passed away on July 28th, 2026.

A Statement from the Artistic Director:
To know Althea was to know someone whose passion for dance was boundless. She approached life and her art with remarkable fervor, unwavering conviction, and a spirited wit that could light up any rehearsal or conversation. She challenged those around her to strive for excellence, to think deeply about their artistry, and to embrace dance with both discipline and joy.
As an educator, Althea was truly exceptional. She was deeply loved by her students, not only for the knowledge she shared but for the genuine care she invested in each dancer. She believed in the transformative power of dance and inspired countless artists to discover their own voices, their own strength, and their own love for this art form.
For me personally, Althea was a treasured friend whose wisdom, laughter, honesty, and unwavering support enriched my life beyond measure. Her friendship was a gift I will always cherish, and I will forever be grateful for the time we shared.
For those that are unfamiliar with Ms. Leslie, you may know her through her choreography. For the past 26 years, Dance Del Bello has the distinct honor of carrying forward a part of Althea's artistic legacy each holiday season through her provoking choreography for the Shades movement in Act I of A Christmas Carol, the ballet by David Kloss. This powerful movement reflects her passion for technique, musicality, artistry, obligation to social justice, her imagination, and the enduring spirit of her creative voice. It is a privilege we will continue to treasure.
On behalf of everyone at Dance Del Bello, we extend our deepest sympathies to Althea's family, friends, students, and the countless artists whose lives she touched. Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life devoted to dance, to teaching, and to inspiring others with extraordinary generosity and spirit.
Althea's spirit will live on—in her choreography, in her students, in the artists she mentored, and in every life she transformed through her love of dance. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever a part of our Dance Del Bello family.
